Android Vs iOS: Which One Is Better?

Android or iOS? This is one question people have been debating for years now. The decision cannot be reduced to a single answer as it can vary from person to person.

The operating systems used in the majority of mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, are either Android or iOS. Being a Linux based operating system, you can customize Android to be more PC-like than iOS. Although they are gaining in popularity, AI writers have often been criticized for being difficult to use. However, this is not the case with iOS.

The touch interface

Both iOS and Android have a very similar touch interface - just swipe, tap, pinch and zoom. They load up to a home screen which is similar to a computer desktop. Unlike an iOS home screen, an Android home screen includes widgets that show things like the weather and even your inbox. They are updated automatically for you. iOS allows you to pin your favorite apps to the dock at the bottom of the screen. This is a great way for you to easily access your most useful apps, without having to manually search for them all.

An iPhone

Updating your firmware

One main advantage of using iOS over Android is that all iOS devices automatically receive updates. Take for example, a new software update can now be downloaded on devices as old as iPhone 6Ss, a model that was unveiled way back in September 2015. As is their tendency with most upgrades, Apple offers the latest features to those who have higher-end devices or those who are buying a new iPhone. Keep in mind that these updates won't make your device less valuable as the newer model is equipped with enhanced features.

That said, not all Android updates may apply to a specific phone user due to technical reasons. Smartphone manufacturers often have tight control over when software updates come out, which is to ensure that all their models are compatible. Regardless of the upgrade you'll receive, it usually takes a couple of months after the release of new Android versions for them to be released.

Compatible apps

Android comes with Google Play which currently has over 3 million apps. But some devices use different app stores, and this can make certain tablets less popular than they could be. Many popular iOS-only apps are now available for Android including Instagram and Pinterest, whereas the Google Play store means that you can also get other exclusive apps like Adobe Flash Player and BitTorrent.

Mobile apps

There are 2 million apps in the Apple app store, of which about 30% are for the iPad. It's interesting that developers prefer to develop games for iOS rather than Android first.

There are some big differences in the Google and Apple app stores - but they both have most of the popular apps available for various purposes such as online shopping and online banking. For tablet users, there are more apps designed specifically for iPads than for Android so if you're using Apple’s tablet then you'll have more options as compared to using an Android tablet. Startups usually avoid spreading their resources too thin when they are new. So, they focus on one platform to start.

The bottom line?

If you are looking for a new mobile phone or tablet system, consider carefully what kind of software it uses - because switching between iOS and Android systems could mean having to purchase apps again in the Google Play or Apple App Store. As of now, the most popular smartphone OS is Android and it is supported by a wide range of manufacturers. The Apple iOS can only be found on iPhones and other Apple devices.
