The 6 Best Places to Travel Alone
If you're an independent person who can't stand the thought of being tied down by the rest of your group, then traveling alone may be right up your alley. However, if you've never traveled alone before, or have been nervous about doing so, this article will show you some of the best places to travel alone for the first time. We'll discuss freedom and independence as well as popular vacation destinations from around the world that are ideal for solo travelers.
1. Paris
The city of love offers you many things, including freedom. The romantic language, charming architecture and endless opportunities for exploring will keep you busy while simultaneously keeping your mind at ease knowing that if need be, you can truly spend time alone. You'll never find yourself without an activity in Paris since it's chock-full of art galleries, museums and parks for its visitors to explore.
Explore ancient structures like Notre Dame or take in a performance by some of their talented street musicians. There are also plenty of cafés where you can relax with a good book or enjoy a delicious pastry. Whatever you choose to do in Paris, just remember that they don't call it the city of lights for nothing!
2. New York City
New York City is one of my favorite places to travel alone. You can feel a certain energy and freedom in NYC. If you're feeling adventurous, visit some of these areas during off-hours (they are huge!). The Brooklyn Bridge, Times Square, Central Park, and Little Italy are just a few great places to visit. You can also stop by The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Guggenheim Museum if you have some extra time on your hands.
For something fun, try going to an event at Madison Square Garden or Barclays Center! Or if you want to shop, check out Soho or Fifth Avenue. To end your night, get dinner at one of many restaurants in Greenwich Village or head over to Hell's Kitchen for some live music. And don't forget that there are plenty of museums nearby! Check out MoMA PS1 and The Whitney Museum of American Art for some culture.
3. Rome
A highly trafficked city, Rome doesn't have quite as much freedom as you might imagine. There are plenty of tourists and people wandering around, so if you're looking for a spot where there's more space and a lot less people in general, move on. For a smaller town with freedom that still offers culture and history, check out Lucca or Sorrento.
If you're just looking for a beach town with less crowds than Cancun or Acapulco, then make your way down to Costa Rica—it's safe and beautiful, though watch out for those piranhas!
4. Barcelona
Barcelona is a vibrant city that's known for its art, architecture, and nightlife. It's one of Europe's most visited cities and often ranks in lists as one of The Best Cities in The World To Travel. As a big city with plenty to see and do, it's also great for solo travelers! You can explore their many museums (seriously, their Picasso museum is incredible), go shopping on Passeig de Gracia street or just wander around their many parks with majestic views.
There are tons of places to eat too – you can find both local restaurants and international cuisine. Plus, there are lots of events happening throughout the year like festivals, concerts and more. Just be aware that prices here are higher than other European destinations so be sure to plan ahead before visiting if you want to save some money! Also note: Barcelona has a reputation for being one of Europe's top party destinations – so if you're looking for an exciting time then look no further!
5. Tokyo
Tokyo has plenty of resources for budget-friendly solo travelers. From low-cost hostels and hotels, to a smorgasbord of inexpensive dining options—this city is a traveler's dream. It's also safe, with an incredibly efficient and easy-to-navigate public transportation system (even for those who don't speak Japanese).
And there are countless sites worth seeing in both Tokyo and surrounding areas; from ancient shrines and temples, to futuristic architecture like Tokyo Skytree. There's no shortage of things to do here!
6. Sydney
This sunny city is teeming with fun things to do and places to explore, perfect for traveling solo. It has a vibrant nightlife, but those looking for quiet time can also find it in Sydney's parks and beaches. No trip would be complete without tasting some of Australia's delicious wines, so plan a day (or more) at one of these fabulous vineyards.
Get yourself down to Bondi Beach where you can work on your tan, hit some waves or just lie in the sun! The people are friendly and there are plenty of activities that don't require a partner. You won't regret taking advantage of everything Sydney has to offer.
